MALAWI: Peter Mutharika Projected Winner In Presidential Election

Unofficial election results obtained by Times indicate that Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader Arthur Peter Mutharika has emerged as the winner of the September 16 presidential election.o
Mutharika has secured 3,016,266 votes, representing 56.8 per cent of the ballots cast. His closest rival, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader Dr Lazarus Chakwera, has garnered 1,742,180 votes, which translates to 32.8 per cent.
The figures suggest that a total of 5,306,871 people participated in the election. United Transformation Movement (UTM) president Dr Dalitso Kabambe is in third place with 213,891 votes.
If the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) confirms these results, Mutharika will remain in power and lead the country u
ntil 2030.
