By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of six suspects in connection with the deadly attack on its Tactical Teams at Agu Centre in Katsina-Ala/Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
The incident, which occurred on Friday, was reportedly carried out by suspected armed herdsmen and local militias. It left three police officers dead, while seven others remain missing.
The Commissioner of Police in Benue, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, is personally leading an ongoing response operation aimed at rescuing the missing officers and apprehending those behind the assault.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, strongly condemned the attack, describing it as “cruel, unwarranted, and an affront on the good people of Benue State.”
Hundeyin disclosed that the arrested suspects are already in custody and providing useful information to investigators.
He added that the IGP has ordered the deployment of additional tactical assets to the affected area to fast-track the manhunt for fleeing suspects.
“The IGP assures that no stone will be left unturned in restoring peace and security in Benue State,” the statement read in part.
The Police urged members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security agencies as efforts intensify to rescue the missing officers and dismantle the criminal networks behind the attack.
