NIGERIA: Lagos To Commence Night Repair Works On Ozumba Mbadiwe Road
By Ameenat Hamzat, Lagos, Nigeria
The Lagos State Government has announced plans to begin repair works on a section of Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, starting Monday, September 15, 2025.
According to the Ministry of Transportation, the rehabilitation will cover the stretch from Bonny Camp junction and last for one week, ending on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
To minimize disruptions, the repairs will be carried out at night between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. daily.
Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who signed the advisory on Sunday, explained that the schedule was deliberately chosen to ease traffic during the day.
He said.“Ozumba Mbadiwe Road is a critical artery linking Victoria Island with other parts of Lagos. The rehabilitation is part of our continuous efforts to maintain the state’s road infrastructure. We urge motorists to cooperate with traffic officers and show understanding during this short period.”
The busy corridor, which connects commuters from the Lekki axis into Victoria Island and Ikoyi, is notorious for heavy traffic during peak hours. Past repairs on the road have often worsened congestion, prompting the government to opt for night-time intervention.
Authorities expressed confidence that the planned works will make the road more motorable and safer for all categories of vehicles once completed.
