NIGERIA: Hilda Baci Washes Giant Pot Ahead Of Record-Breaking Jollof Rice Attempt

Celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, has assured fans and food lovers of the hygiene standards for her latest cooking feat, a record-breaking jollof rice attempt scheduled to hold at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.

In an Instagram post on Friday, Baci shared a video of herself washing the massive custom-fabricated pot, measuring about six metres wide, which will be used for the attempt.

“Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean! I personally rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself,” she wrote, while tagging the detergent brand she used.

The chef, who gained global recognition during her cook-a-thon in 2023, explained that she entered the giant pot to thoroughly scrub its interior.

“I know you’re probably about to pop your eyeballs out. Why is she inside the pot? The reason I’m inside the pot at this moment is because I need to wash it,” she said jokingly.

Baci further assured her supporters that the pot would be rinsed and sanitised multiple times before use.

“I can assure you that once I am done washing the interior of the pot and I’ve gotten rid of all the liquid, I’m going to rinse it again, and I have brand new mopsticks that I would be using to clean it once again before we use it to cook for you,” she added.

The chef promised participants and attendees that the final meal would be “the most amazing, hygienic food you’ve ever eaten,” as she prepared to serve thousands of portions of Nigerian jollof rice in what she described as “history in the making.”
