KENYA: Faith Kemunto’s Body Exhumed In Nyamira As Two Suspects Remanded
By Lisbeth Micheni, Kenya
Faith Kemunto, a 20-year-old university-bound student from Maosi Village in Nyamira County, has been found dead weeks after she went missing in July 2025.
Kemunto is said to have left home in June with her phone while nibbling a mango. A one-month search yielded fruit on Monday after a strange message came to her sister-in-law’s phone, sent by Kemunto’s alleged boyfriend, identified as Gideon Makori.
“It was written that we buried this Fay up there in Maosi, at the place where they dig sand near the water tank. So I just left it and they went,” said Grace Nyaitondi, the mother of the deceased.
Her body was discovered in a shallow grave in Nyamira, and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have since exhumed her remains to aid in forensic investigations.
Two suspects linked to her death, identified as Gideon Makori, believed to have been her boyfriend, and Vinic Kemunto, were arraigned in court and remanded for 21 days as investigations continue.
The deceased and alleged boyfriend were set to join university this week.
The case has sparked outrage and grief among residents and across the country, with many calling for justice for the slain student.
