By Smile Hamilton
Nigerian-born striker Babatunde Adepoju, who plays for TNM Super League giants Nyasa Big Bullets, is now free to feature for the Malawi national football team, the Flames, after officially obtaining Malawian citizenship.
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Communications Director, Gomezgani Zakazaka, confirmed the development through The Nation newspaper, saying the forward has completed all procedures and is now a recognised Malawian citizen.
Adepoju has been one of the most consistent goal scorers in the domestic league, leading the attack for Big Bullets with power, pace, and precision. His sharp eye for goals and physical presence have made him a fan favourite and a constant threat to defenders across the league.
With his new status, Adepoju will now be available for national team selection, a development that could boost the Flames’ attacking options. Many analysts believe his inclusion could add depth and experience to the squad, especially as Malawi prepares for the upcoming continental qualifiers.
The striker has spent several seasons at Nyasa Big Bullets, where he has won league titles and established himself as one of the top foreign players to grace Malawian football. He has also expressed his desire to contribute to the Flames, saying Malawi has become his home.
Adepoju’s availability is expected to spark excitement among supporters, with FAM officials optimistic that his addition will strengthen the Flames’ chances in future competitions.
