KENYA: Former Police Officer Arrested Over Wife’s Murder And Rape Of House Help In Nairobi
By Lisbeth Micheni, Kenya
A family in Pipeline, Nairobi, has been left shattered after the alleged brutal killing of 27-year-old Susan Nabwire, by her husband, a former police officer.
Relatives say the tragedy has robbed them of a loved one and left behind a one-year-old child who is now orphaned, with her mother dead and father in custody.
According to accounts from the night of August 13, 2025, 44-year-old Cyprian Mukoye came home visibly agitated.
He accused his wife of infidelity and demanded access to her phone, passwords, and M-Pesa PIN. When she declined, a heated quarrel broke out.
The couple’s house help recalled that the confrontation escalated violently. At around 3 a.m., Mukoye allegedly returned from the bathroom armed with an axe and struck his wife on the neck, killing her.
He then hid her body under the bed before turning on the house help, whom he raped, threatening to kill her if she resisted.
He later locked her and the baby inside the house with the victim’s body before fleeing with their mobile phones.
Police officers responding to the scene broke into the house and discovered the horrifying crime.
Nabwire’s body was taken to Mama Lucy Hospital mortuary for preservation.
The deceased had been operating an M-Pesa business at Machakos Country Bus, while her husband, who was dismissed from the police service, worked as a casual labourer in Pipeline.
Authorities confirmed on Saturday that the suspect was arrested and is currently held at Embakasi Police Station pending arraignment.
Family members say the shocking events have left them traumatised and struggling to cope with the loss.
