KENYA: Police Shoot Bar Owner In Mistaken Identity Incident in Kisumu
By Lisbeth Micheni, Kenya
Confusion has gripped Luwala village in Seme subcounty in Kisumu County, after police officers shot and killed a bar owner in what has been described as a case of mistaken identity.
Eyewitnesses said the deceased, Felix Olueru, was shot twice by officers who had gone to lay an ambush.
According to the area chief, the bar manager had made a distress call to police claiming that suspected criminals were hiding behind the premises, unaware that it was the bar owner who had taken position to monitor the alleged thugs.
Police officers from Maipua visited the scene, collected spent cartridges and recorded statements from witnesses as investigations commenced.
The body of the deceased is lying at Kombewa Sub-County Hospital in Mochere awaiting post-mortem.
