Zomba District Council in Malawi, commemorated International Youth Day on Sunday, embracing the theme “From Click to Progress: Youth Digital Pathway to Sustainable Development” at Nsondole Primary School ground, Traditional Authority Kumtumanji.
Councillor Blazio Chinthenga, the Council’s Chairperson, urged youths to adopt digital technology to stay relevant in today’s world.
He emphasized the importance of avoiding harmful behaviors like drinking and substance abuse, which can jeopardize their well-being and future.
Chinthenga also encouraged youths to consider technical and vocational skills as a means of earning a living and contributing to Malawi’s socio-economic development.
Zomba District Council is committed to empowering youths, encouraging Members of Parliament to allocate part of the Constituency Development Fund for youth skills development.
The council, along with its partners, promotes digital technology learning through technical and vocational training institutions online, aligned with Malawi Vision 2063.
District Youth Network Chairperson Sanudi Mussa stressed that access to youth digital technology is crucial for Malawi’s sustainable development, considering youths are future leaders.
This celebration aligns with the global International Youth Day theme, highlighting the transformative power of digital technology in advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
