Leicester City’s stalwart midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, has solidified his place in Nigerian football history by becoming the ninth Nigerian player to achieve 200 appearances in the English Premier League.
This milestone marks Ndidi’s significant contribution to both Leicester City and the Premier League, as he joins an elite circle of Nigerian footballers who have left a lasting legacy in England’s top-flight competition.
At 27, Ndidi’s consistent performances and exceptional work ethic have made him a central figure in Leicester City’s midfield since his arrival. His 200th appearance underscores his reliability and influence, particularly in the defensive midfield role where he has excelled, becoming a staple for the club.
Ndidi’s achievement places him among celebrated Nigerian football legends, including Nwankwo Kanu, who ranks second in terms of Nigerian Premier League appearances with 273 matches for Arsenal, and Shola Ameobi, who tops the list with 298 appearances.
Ndidi’s career also parallels the feats of other prominent Nigerians in the Premier League, such as Victor Moses (220 appearances) and Victor Anichebe (205 appearances).
Kelechi Iheanacho, Ndidi’s compatriot and teammate at Leicester, closely trails him with 196 appearances, signalling a potential addition to this distinguished list in the near future.
The ranks of Nigeria’s Premier League stars also include John Obi Mikel (249), Yakubu Aiyegbeni (252), and Alex Iwobi, who currently has 261 appearances.
