South Sudan has officially taken over the chairmanship of the East Africa Communications Organization (EACO), the highest decision-making body of the East African communications sector.
Hon. Gieth Kon Mathiang, Director General of the National Communication Authority – NCA, is officially the Chair of the East African Communications Organisations(EACO).
The announcement was made on Friday, coinciding with the conclusion of the East African Communication Organization’s 1st Advisory Council and 30th General Assemblies held in the capital city, Juba.
Over the course of the five day advisory council, various resolutions aimed at enhancing cybersecurity and establishing a robust communication framework for the East African Community (EAC) were adopted.
At the closing of the General Assembly, Minister of Information, Communication Technology, and Postal Services, Michael Makuei Lueth, expressed South Sudan’s full commitment to implementing the resolutions from both the advisory council and the 30th General Assembly of EACO.
Minister Makuei asserted that the resolutions would not only benefit South Sudan and the EAC but would also have a positive impact across the African continent.
He urged EACO delegates to act as ambassadors of peace as they return to their respective countries, emphasizing that South Sudan is a nation dedicated to peace and harmony.
During the closing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Information, Gen. David Yauyau also endorsed the advisory council’s resolutions and stressed the necessity of revisiting the framework for postal services.
Additionally, Yauyau drew attention to the urgent issue of electronic waste management, highlighting the significant challenges faced by Juba in this area.
