The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS) has taken decisive action by re-exporting five cargo trucks at the Nimule border point after the goods failed to meet national safety and quality standards.
The rejected shipments included two trucks carrying sorghum and three loaded with maize flour. During a routine inspection, SSNBS officials identified that the sorghum was infested with live insects, and laboratory analyses confirmed that the maize flour contained aflatoxin levels exceeding permissible limits.
“These included two trucks of sorghum found to be infested with live insects and three trucks of maize flour containing aflatoxin levels above the acceptable threshold, posing a significant risk to public health,” the Bureau stated in a report released on Tuesday.
In accordance with the National Bureau of Standards Act of 2012, the Bureau mandated the re-expor
