The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples was celebrated with a vibrant event that highlighted South Sudan’s rich cultural diversity and heritage.
The program took attendees on a journey through history, tracing connections from ancient Sudan and Egypt through the era of kings and queens, and exploring migrations and the Nilotic heritage that encompasses East Africa, including Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Sudan, and South Sudan, as well as aspects of West African cultures, such as the Wolof of Senegal and Mali.
Special emphasis was placed on the historical background, religious beliefs, prophetic traditions, and systems of governance among the Nuer people.
The theme of the event, “The Role of Kuäärmuɔɔn in Personal Peace and Community Harmony,” underscored the importance of traditional values in fostering unity and peace within communities.
