The Government of South Sudan announced on Tuesday its intention to send a delegation to the United States for upcoming bilateral discussions.
In a press briefing in Juba, Apuk Ayuel Mayen, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, revealed that Foreign Minister Monday Semaya Kumba is actively engaging with U.S. authorities to facilitate these talks.
“The Honorable Monday Semaya Kumba, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has officially reached out to his U.S. counterpart, Honorable Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to reaffirm the strong and longstanding bilateral relations between the Republic of South Sudan and the United States,” Ayuel stated. “The Minister is planning an official visit to the U.S. to discuss various matters of mutual interest, emphasizing our commitment to enhancing diplomatic, political, and economic ties with the United States.”
Ayuel expresses gratitude to U.S. Ambassador to South Sudan, Michael J. Adler, for approving entry visas for a South Sudanese delegation led by Finance Minister Dr. Marial Ater Dongrin. The delegation is scheduled to participate in the 2025 annual spring meetings organized by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C., as well as other engagements that will benefit both nations.
“Special thanks to His Excellency Michael J. Adler for his crucial role in facilitating the visa issuance, particularly given the travel restrictions facing South Sudanese nationals. His efforts are instrumental in nurturing the already strong bilateral relationship between South Sudan and the United States,” Ayuel remarked.
The spokesperson assured that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is committed to enhancing its engagement with the international community and strengthening South Sudan’s global diplomatic relations.
Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its commitment to monitoring the safety and well-being of South Sudanese citizens in Sudan, maintaining close communication with Sudanese authorities to ensure their protection.
Ayuel encouraged all South Sudanese citizens currently in Sudan to remain calm and keep in touch with the embassy in Port Sudan for assistance.
