South Africa – 11 Pupils Killed in Car Accident in Merafong, Johannesburg

Matome Chiloane, Gauteng Education MEC had on Tuesday, attended a memorial service for the 11 pupils who lost their lives during the annihilate car crash that took place in Merafong, west of Johannesburg, Gauteng, last week.
It was alleged that the minibus was hit from behind by a bakkie, causing it to overturn and subsequently catch fire.
According to Reamedia, the Hlalele family tragically lost four children in the crash that claimed the lives of the learners and their driver.
The four children were riding the minibus taxi for the first time after switching from their previous school transport, which had often made them late. This heartbreaking accident occurred on Wednesday, 10th July 2024.
The four cousins – Reneilwe (7), Thato (8), Hlompo (11) and Sihle, (12) were all learners at Rocklands Primary School.
The memorial service was held at the Grace Bible Church in Carletonville, where the Gauteng Education MEC gave a heartfelt condolences to the families of the pupils.
The driver of the Bakkie has been granted R20 000 bail, as this was believed to have been an accident.
