Popular Nigerian comedian, Oluwaseyitan Aletile also known as Seyi Law, has distanced himself from the ongoing ranking debate within the comedy industry.
In an interview in an episode on trending Hip TV, Seyi Law, stressed that he is not interested in competing with fellow comedians, maintaining that respect for senior colleagues is more important.
“I don’t want to be one of those people dragging ranking with anybody,” Seyi Law stated. He explained that the comedy industry initially had no internal conflicts or categorisation, and he still values the relationships he has built over the years. “I have played with everybody and I still respect everybody,” he added.
Seyi Law paid respect to veteran comedians such as Alibaba and Julius Agwu, recalling how Agwu welcomed him on a comedy tour without discrimination. He also mentioned having worked with Basketmouth, who paid him for shows and noted his past collaborations with AY.
“As a Yoruba person, we don’t disrespect anybody who has given us food. So, they are all highly respected,” he explained. Despite any differences among the top comedians, Seyi Law affirmed that they remain his senior colleagues and have never competed with him.
Concluding his remarks, Seyi Law said, “So anywhere you place me on the ranking is okay by me. The most important thing is that we must not allow the industry to suffer.”
He emphasised that as long as everyone is doing well, maintaining a positive and supportive environment in the comedy industry is the priority.
