Ronaldo Could Return To Manchester United Under New Manager Amorim, Says Sheringham

Former Manchester United forward Teddy Sheringham, has suggested that Cristiano Ronaldo could be welcomed back to Old Trafford under the potential leadership of Ruben Amorim.
Sheringham, in a recent interview with FlashScore, shared his view that Amorim’s appointment as United manager could pave the way for Ronaldo’s return, even after his controversial exit from the club in 2022.
Ronaldo’s last stint at United, which began with much fanfare in 2021, ended on a sour note following a candid interview with Piers Morgan that led to his departure and eventual move to Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
Now a major figure in the Saudi Pro League and the league’s leading scorer, Ronaldo has embraced a new chapter, but Sheringham believes the door could still be open for him at United.
“Cristiano Ronaldo would be very welcome back at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim. But he is onto bigger and better things,” Sheringham remarked.
He noted that Ronaldo’s focus may be elsewhere, comparing his trajectory to David Beckham’s post-career path of high-profile ventures worldwide rather than a traditional coaching role.
Despite acknowledging the appeal of a potential return, Sheringham noted that, at 39, Ronaldo may ultimately choose to conclude his career in Saudi Arabia. Moreover, he doubted that Ronaldo would pursue coaching at United, given the player’s own reservations about guiding the current generation of players.
Ronaldo has openly shared his reluctance toward coaching, expressing concerns about the mindset of younger athletes. “For me, it will be difficult one day to be a coach because I don’t have a passion for this generation,” Ronaldo stated on his YouTube channel, UR. He added, “They don’t take advice from our experience. They think the phones will give you a good education—TikTok, Instagram.”
Instead, Ronaldo looks forward to a business-focused future once he retires from professional football.
“I have other things to worry about, another chapter of my life that is business-focused, and I’m excited about it. It will be a challenge for me to learn other areas I don’t know, to be more involved in my business, and I think I will be good at it,” he said.
While Sheringham sees a path for Ronaldo’s return under Amorim, it remains uncertain if the Portuguese icon would trade his expanding role in Saudi football for one final run with Manchester United.
