Tony Okocha, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has demanded that Governor Siminalayi Fubara either resign from office or face impeachment.
Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday, Okocha condemned the governor’s recent invitation to the 27 lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, dismissing it as a deceptive move.
Okocha accused Fubara of undermining the rule of law and disrespecting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, insisting that the Supreme Court’s ruling on the status of the lawmakers was final and irreversible.
According to him, there is no legal pathway for the governor to maneuver around the decision, and any attempts to do so amount to political gamesmanship.
He described the invitation extended to the lawmakers as a “Greek gift,” implying that it was insincere and meant to serve the governor’s interests rather than resolve the crisis in the state assembly.
The political crisis in Rivers State has deepened over the past few months, with tensions escalating between the governor and lawmakers who defected to the APC.
