Paris Saint-Germain are on the verge of securing another Ligue 1 title, but their ambitions extend beyond just being crowned champions.
Coach Luis Enrique has set his sights on an unprecedented achievement—going the entire season unbeaten.
With seven games remaining, PSG sit 21 points ahead of Monaco and could officially clinch the title with a draw against Angers on Saturday.
Even if they lose, a Monaco defeat later in the day against Brest would still confirm their status as champions. However, Enrique believes there is a bigger prize to chase.
“There are records which did not interest me until today, but now, I don’t think there is a better source of motivation than remaining unbeaten for the whole league season,” Enrique said on Friday.
No team in French top-flight history has ever completed a league season without defeat.
Nantes came close in 1994/95, losing just once in a 38-game campaign. With Ligue 1 now reduced to 18 teams, PSG would need to navigate 34 matches without a loss to make history.
Beyond Ligue 1, PSG’s ambitions remain high on all fronts.
They are eyeing a domestic double after beating Dunkerque 4-2 in the French Cup semi-finals, setting up a final clash with Reims on May 24. Meanwhile, in Europe, they prepare to face Aston Villa in the Champions League quarter-finals, with the first leg at Parc des Princes on Wednesday.
As PSG march towards another dominant season, the challenge of perfection in Ligue 1 may be the ultimate motivation to keep their intensity high in the closing weeks.
