Prominent Malawian Business Figure Urges Procurement Professionals To Address Sector Inefficiencies
By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
Thomson Mpinganjira, a renowned Malawian philanthropist and business leader, has emphasised the need for procurement professionals to tackle inefficiencies in the sector to boost productivity and support Malawi’s economic growth.
Speaking at the annual Malawi Institute of Procurement and Supply (MIPS) conference in Mangochi, Mpinganjira stressed that adopting efficient, transparent, and corruption-free procurement practices can help organisations save significantly.
Mpinganjira’s call to action was echoed by Mirriam Jere, president of MIPS, who acknowledged the industry’s challenges with unethical behaviour.
However, Jere highlighted the positive impact of stricter regulations, which have led to penalties for those engaging in misconduct.
The MIPS conference served as a platform for procurement professionals to discuss key issues and find solutions to improve the sector. As a membership body, MIPS aims to regulate the profession, promote professionalism, and develop the interests of procurement and supply professionals.
By addressing inefficiencies and promoting best practices, procurement professionals can play a vital role in supporting Malawi’s economic development.
