The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as the Chairman of its National Campaign Council for the upcoming Ondo State governorship election.
The council’s formation was disclosed on Thursday in a statement by APC’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu.
Sanwo-Olu is set to lead the 305-member council in preparation for the November 16 election, where the party aims to secure a victory in Ondo State. The governor’s leadership experience in Lagos is expected to be a strategic advantage, guiding the council’s efforts and shaping the campaign’s activities.
He will be supported by former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, who has been appointed as the council’s secretary.
The campaign team features a host of influential APC figures, including Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, and Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, is also among the top members who will play key roles in the campaign.
According to the APC’s statement, the National Working Committee, chaired by Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has formally approved the composition of the campaign council. The official inauguration of the council is set for October 28 at the International Event Centre, known as “The Dome,” in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.
High-profile political leaders, such as Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, are also part of the team, signalling the party’s intention to consolidate its political presence in the Southwest region.
Additionally, former officials, including Chief Olusola Oke, Senator Stella Oduah, Senator Uche Ekwunife, and retired General Abdulrahman Dambazau, will contribute their expertise in various campaign roles.
