Nigeria’s Falconets have advanced to the round of 16 in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup after an impressive 4-0 win against Venezuela in their final group stage match on Saturday night.
The Falconets started their World Cup campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Korea Republic, earning their first points in the group stage.
However, their progress was momentarily halted after a 3-1 defeat to Germany on Wednesday. Despite the setback, the team bounced back strongly against Venezuela.
In a commanding display, Amina Bello opened the scoring early, followed by goals from Chiamaka Okwuchukwu and Flourish Sebastine, giving the team a comfortable 3-0 lead before halftime.
Joy Igbokwe sealed the victory with a stoppage-time goal, leaving no doubt about Nigeria’s dominance in the match.
The win secured the Falconets a second-place finish in their group, just behind Germany, and ensured their progression to the knockout stage of the tournament being held in Colombia.
With their place in the Round of 16 confirmed, the Falconets now await the announcement of their next opponent as they continue their quest for glory on the world stage.
