Nigeria’s Electoral Authority Confirms Full Readiness For Edo Governorship Election

The Nigerian Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has affirmed its preparedness for the Edo State governorship election set for 21 September 2024.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made this declaration at a stakeholders’ meeting in Benin City on Wednesday.
Professor Yakubu assured all political parties and candidates of a smooth electoral process while emphasizing that INEC has completed 11 out of the 13 planned activities for the election.
He highlighted that the final two steps include the conclusion of political campaigns by 19th September and the election itself.
In his update, Yakubu noted that Edo State has registered 2,629,025 voters. During the latest voter registration, 184,438 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were issued, comprising 119,206 new registrations and 65,232 transfers or reprints.
INEC has also accredited 134 observer groups, including 124 domestic and 10 international organizations, and more than 700 journalists from 114 media outlets will be reporting on the event.
