NIGERIA;Ohanaeze Ndigbo Slams Amaechi Over “Reckless” Remarks Against Tinubu

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has strongly condemned former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, over his recent comments against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Amaechi, in a widely circulated statement, reportedly called for the use of “brutal force” to seize power in 2027, a remark Ohanaeze Ndigbo described as dangerous and a threat to democracy.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Kaduna, Deputy President General of Ohanaeze, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, criticized Amaechi’s rhetoric, distancing the Igbo community from any political scheming aimed at delegitimizing an elected President.
“Amaechi’s outrageous call for Nigerians to resort to ‘brutal force’ to snatch power from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by 2027 starkly contravenes the principles of civility, democracy, and peace that we hold dear,” Isiguzoro stated.
He further expressed concern over Amaechi’s remarks that politicians must be willing to “steal, maim, and kill” to retain power, labeling them as reckless and a potential threat to national stability.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo also threw its weight behind the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, who earlier urged Amaechi to stop inciting the public.
“We unequivocally support the position of the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, and we call on Amaechi to retract his divisive statements before he faces the inevitable consequences of his actions,” Isiguzoro added.
The group reaffirmed its support for President Tinubu’s administration and emphasized its commitment to national unity, peace, and democratic governance.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo remains committed to fostering peace, stability, and good governance in Nigeria. The aspirations of the Igbo people align with a future built on legitimate leadership, respect for democratic processes, and a shared vision for a prosperous Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
As the political atmosphere in Nigeria continues to heat up ahead of 2027, Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s firm stance against inflammatory rhetoric highlights the ongoing tensions within the country’s political landscape.
