Nigerian Police Officers In Somalia Hailed For Exemplary Service
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has applauded the Nigerian Formed Police Unit (NFPU) officers deployed under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) for their outstanding professionalism and commitment to service.
This commendation was contained in a press statement signed by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, and released on June 20, 2025.
According to the release, the officers served with distinction from October 16, 2023, to June 14, 2025. They were recently redeployed to administrative and command element duties at the AUSSOM Police/Mission Headquarters in Mogadishu.
Despite their initial training as Formed Police Unit operatives, the officers adapted swiftly to the responsibilities of Individual Police Officers (IPOs), despite minimal induction training.
Their intelligence, discipline, and operational efficiency contributed significantly to the smooth running of AUSSOM’s police operations during a period of security restructuring and transition.
A letter dated June 12, 2025, from the AUSSOM Police Commissioner to the IGP confirmed the officers’ remarkable performance and acknowledged their strategic input in supporting mission continuity and coordination.
Among the redeployed personnel are CSP Shehu Gani Ahmed, SP Abraham Akhojie, SP Olivia Ugochukwu, SP Aliyu Makwa, DSP Jack Prince, DSP Odey Kingsley Lukpata, IP Nwite Sunday, and Sgt Ayeni Richard.
The IGP described the officers as exemplary ambassadors of the Nigeria Police Force and urged them to remain committed to the values of discipline and excellence. He also reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to contributing meaningfully to international peacekeeping and global security efforts.
