A Nigerian journalist, Livinus Chibuike Victor, is preparing for a Guinness World Record attempt in Abuja with a 72-hour interview marathon aimed at spotlighting the role of journalism in democracy.
The event, themed “Nigeria Our Strength,” will run from September 28 to October 1, 2025, at the Tangier Hotel in Abuja. Chibuike, who hails from Imo State and has gained recognition on the global stage, said the effort is not just about endurance but about affirming the value of journalism.
“In an age where truth is often under siege, this initiative seeks to draw attention to the vital role journalists play in promoting transparency, challenging power, and giving a voice to the voiceless,” he said.
Chibuike explained that the marathon will feature interviews and discussions with journalists, policymakers, civil society leaders, and citizens. He noted that despite threats to press freedom both in Nigeria and globally, journalism continues to stand as a cornerstone of democracy.
“Journalism is the backbone of democracy, and through this attempt, we hope to spotlight the importance of a free and fearless press in shaping the narrative of our nation,” he said.
The 72-hour session is expected to draw wide attention from media professionals, human rights advocates, and members of the public. Organizers say it will serve as a testament to the resilience of journalists and the challenges they face in ensuring accountability and amplifying the voices of ordinary people.
Chibuike emphasized that the attempt goes beyond breaking a record, saying it is a reminder of the enduring importance of journalism in shaping societies and driving democratic development.
