Nigerian First Olympic Medallist, Nojim Maiyegun, Passes Away at 85

Nigerian first Olympic medalist, Nojim Maiyegun, has reportedly passed away on Monday in Austria.
The 85-year-old man died of natural causes in Vienna, Austria, where he had been residing.
Maiyegun, who was said to be visually impaired before his death, was born in 1941 in Lagos State, Nigeria.
He made history by winning a bronze medal at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics in the light middleweight boxing category.
His passing comes just days after the 60th anniversary of his historic victory on 10th August 1964, when he secured Nigeria’s first Olympic medal.
His death marks a significant loss to the Nigerian sports community, as his legacy remains a source of national pride.
