Nigerian Comedian, Gbenga Urges Obi, Sowore To Contest National Assembly Election For Meaningful Changes

Nigerian comedian and entertainment guru, Gbenga Adeyinka, has called on Peter Obi of the Labor Party (LP), Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC), Kingsley Moghalu, and other young candidates to pursue seats in the Senate and House of Representatives instead of presidential election.
Speaking on a podcast published by The Cable over the weekend, Adeyinka urged young presidential candidates from the 2023 election to shift their focus to the National Assembly to make meaningful changes in the country.
According to Adeyinka, having figures like Obi, Sowore, and Fela Durotoye in the Senate would compel any sitting president to act with caution.
“No president would act without caution with the likes of Obi, Sowore, and Fela Durtoye in the Senate,” he said, emphasizing the need for reform-minded leaders in the legislative arm of government.
He also advised youths aspiring for political offices to start their careers at the grassroots level, acknowledging the bottom-up nature of politics in Nigeria. “There are some people who are professional politicians. That is their job. You now wake up and say you want to come, and… they will not even give you the ticket. With our current structure, it takes the grace of men for you to become president,” Adeyinka noted.
Reflecting on the recent presidential ambitions of Peter Obi, Omoyele Sowore, and Kingsley Moghalu, Adeyinka suggested that their energies could be better utilized in legislative roles.
“If Peter Obi becomes president of Nigeria with the same structure we have in place, there’s nothing he’s going to do,” he added, stressing the importance of changing the laws from within the legislative framework.
