NIGERIA: Zulum Debunks Defection Rumour, Reaffirms Loyalty To APC
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has strongly dismissed rumours claiming he plans to defect from the All Progressives Congress to the African Democratic Congress.
Describing the reports as false and politically motivated, Zulum said those behind the story were merely seeking relevance through disinformation.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, the governor said his loyalty to the APC remains unshaken and his focus is on delivering progress and development to the people of Borno.
“We have become aware of a fictitious and mischievous social media report… alleging plans by me to decamp from the All Progressives Congress to the African Democratic Congress, alongside five other governors,” the statement said.
“This is entirely false and exists only in the imagination of its sponsors. They are detractors who have made no meaningful contribution to the progress of Borno State or Nigeria,” it added.
Zulum said the rumour was designed to create unnecessary political tension and distract his administration from its development goals.
He urged the public to disregard the claims and called on media organisations to verify information from credible sources before publication.
“We have no time for cheap politics; our hands are full with the noble task of rebuilding and developing our dear state,” Zulum stated.
He reaffirmed that his government remains committed to serving under the banner of the APC.
