Nigeria – Wike Declares War on Party Detractors, Vows To Defend Principles Amid PDP Crisis

The Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has made it clear that he will not back down in the face of internal party conflict in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike, known for his combative style and unwavering principles, has vowed to confront any challenges head-on, dismissing speculation about his potential departure from the PDP.
In a media parley marking his one-year anniversary as minister, Wike addressed the swirling rumors regarding his future in the party. “I don’t run away from any fight,” he declared emphatically. “I will stay there; I will fight it out. Who am I going to run from? The vampires? I cannot do that!”
Wike’s remarks come on the heels of a public call by Chief Edwin Clark, a prominent South-South leader, for the PDP’s National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagun, to expel Wike from the party.
Clark accused Wike of using his influence and close ties to President Bola Tinubu to undermine Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and destabilize the party.
The minister, however, remains resolute, insisting that his actions are driven by principle rather than personal gain.
“People must know you for something. Integrity is very important,” Wike stated, emphasizing his commitment to standing by his convictions, regardless of the consequences.
Wike’s defiance underscores a broader power struggle within the PDP, as the party grapples with internal divisions and the fallout from the last election cycle.
Despite the pressure, Wike has consistently reiterated his loyalty to the party, while also making it clear that he will not compromise on his beliefs.
