Nigerian vice president, Kashim Shettima has promised swift action on the Maiduguri flood.
The vice president made the promise at the 17th Annual Banking and Finance Conference (CIBN) held in Abuja on Tuesday, while highlighting the dire situation of flooding in Maiduguri.
During his speech on the theme “Accelerated Economic Growth and Development: Current Status and Future Directions,” Shettima assured that he would visit Maiduguri immediately after the conference, following the President’s approval. “The whole city has been overtaken by flood,” he revealed.
Shettima emphasized that the flood crisis is a nationwide challenge, affecting regions from Bayelsa to Sokoto. “It is not peculiar to one part of the country. We are facing this challenge right from Bayelsa to Sokoto,” he said.
Reassuring Nigerians, Shettima stated, “Be rest assured that the President has the nation at heart and will do whatever it takes to salvage the state of affairs.” He concluded his address by expressing his condolences to those affected, saying, “I want to use this forum to commiserate with the people of our great nation over the flood disasters we are recording all across the length and breadth of this nation.”
Recall that Maiduguri, Borno State, has been affected by flood following the collapse of the Alau Dam.
