By Utebor Paul, Nigeria
At the directive of Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, on Sunday departed Abuja for New York, United States, to attend the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications (Office of the Vice President), Stanley Nkwocha, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja.
According to the statement, Tinubu mandated Shettima to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the high-level global event, allowing the President to focus on pressing domestic issues, particularly the recent devastating flood crisis ravaging parts of the country.
Shettima, while in New York, will deliver Nigeria’s national statement at the Assembly. He is also expected to participate in key meetings and hold bilateral discussions with world leaders on the sidelines of the event.
The high-level General Debate, themed “Leaving no one behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations,” is scheduled to run from September 24 to 28, 2024.
