NIGERIA: Veteran Nigerian Filmmaker Kayode Peters Dies in Canada

Renowned Nigerian filmmaker, director, and actor Kayode Peters has passed away. He died peacefully in Toronto, Canada, on Saturday morning, June 28, 2025, after battling a prolonged illness.
His family announced the news in a statement posted on his official Instagram page.
The statement wrote: “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, Kayode Peters Adewumi. KP braved, challenged, and conquered a long-time illness until his last breath this morning.”
Widely known in the Nigerian entertainment industry as “KP,” Peters was celebrated not only for his creative talents but also for his warmth, kindness, and generosity.
“He touched countless lives, both on and off the screen, and will be deeply missed,” the family added, while requesting privacy during this period of mourning.
Kayode Peters rose to fame in the early 2000s as the creator of the popular comedy TV series Flatmates, which became a staple of Nigerian sitcom culture.
He further established his legacy with projects like Extended Family, and was widely respected for his work in both stage plays and television productions.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
