Nigeria – VeryDarkMan, Lawyer Appear Before Rep Over EFCC-Bobrisky Bribery Allegation

Social critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), arrived at the National Assembly today to attend the investigative hearing into bribery allegations involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and social media personality Bobrisky.
Recall that VeryDarkMan posted a video on his social media account containing an audio recording allegedly featuring the voice of Okuneye Idris Olarenwaju, also known as Bobrisky.
In the recording, Bobrisky claimed that he had not served his prison sentence in an NCoS facility but instead in a rented apartment near the facility, where he allegedly completed his sentence.
Additionally, it was alleged that Bobrisky had paid 15 million naira to the EFCC to have money laundering charges against him dropped.
The allegations sparked widespread reactions, leading to lawsuits being filed and the House of Representatives, along with the EFCC and NCoS, opening an investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, Bobrisky has denied the allegations, claiming that the audio was generated by artificial intelligence. He has also filed a 1-billion-naira lawsuit against VeryDarkMan.
However, in a recent development, VDM was accompanied by his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, as they faced the House of Representatives’ Joint Committee probing the allegations of corruption against the EFCC and Nigerian Correctional Services.
Dressed in traditional Benin attire, VDM expressed his reluctance to make any statements during the hearing, citing Bobrisky’s absence as the reason.
He remarked, “Today I will not say anything because an invitation was given out to me and Bobrisky, but he is not here. I don’t see why I will be here, and he will not, so I won’t say anything, but my lawyer will.”
Also in attendance was Bobrisky’s lawyer, Averosoghene Omuvwie, alongside representatives from the EFCC and the Correctional Services.
VDM released the video of his arrival at the green chamber on his social media. He is seen in the video been chanted by a man believed to be his spiritual fortifier. *News*
Speaking before the panel, VeryDarkMan stated that he would not say anything because both he and Bobrisky were invited, yet Bobrisky did not attend.
He said, “Today, I will not say anything because an invitation was given to both myself and Bobrisky, but he is not here. I don’t see why I should be here and he should not, so I won’t say anything, but my lawyer will.”
However, after his lawyer’s intervention, VeryDarkMan explained the authenticity of the audio recording, revealing that it was provided to him by a person to whom Bobrisky owed money. He also submitted part of the recording to the committee for review.
