NIGERIA: UNODC Praises Nigeria Police Cybercrime Centre For Major Achievements In 2025

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime UNODC has commended the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre NPF NCCC as a key functional unit in the ongoing fight against cybercrime in Nigeria.
The development was made known in a statement issued by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin anipr mipra Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters Abuja on Saturday.
In its 2025 Annual Report on Cybercrime in Nigeria released recently UNODC highlighted the centres significant contributions to strengthening national cybersecurity. The report specifically praised the units role in the recent arrest of 93 Chinese nationals and other Asian suspects involved in large scale cyber enabled crimes describing the operation as one that has elevated the centres profile and impact in cyberspace.
The UNODC noted remarkable successes across multiple operational phases particularly in financial restitution. In 2024 alone the centre recovered substantial illicit proceeds amounting to Eight Billion Eight Hundred and Twenty One Million One Thousand Eight Hundred and Eighty One Naira and Five Kobo N8821001881.05 One Hundred and Fifteen Thousand Two Hundred and Thirty Seven point Nine One USDT in cryptocurrency and Eighty Four Thousand United States Dollars USD. All recovered funds were returned to victims. Additionally the unit dismantled Six Hundred and Eighty Five devices linked to cybercrime activities.
The commendation follows another recent recognition where the NPF NCCC was named the Best Cybercrime Unit in Africa by INTERPOLs Cybercrime Directorate during an event in Singapore outperforming units from Fifty Four countries across the continent. The centre has also been praised for upgrading its public complaint system to an e reporting platform which has made it easier for citizens to report cyber related crimes.
While presenting copies of the report to the Director of the NPF NCCC UNODC reaffirmed its commitment to continued support through financial assistance training programmes and the provision of advanced technological tools to further enhance the units operational efficiency.
