NIGERIA: Ukachukwu Clinches APC Gubernatorial Ticket In Anambra, Sets Stage For 2025 Showdown

By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Nicholas Ukachukwu has emerged as the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, following a landslide victory in the party’s primary concluded on Sunday.
Announcing the results in Awka, the Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee and Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, declared Ukachukwu the clear winner with 1,455 votes.
His closest rival, Valentine Ozigbo, trailed with 67 votes, while Johnbosco Onunkwo and Edozie Madu secured 26 and 8 votes respectively.
A total of 26 votes were declared invalid.
In his acceptance speech, Ukachukwu hailed President Bola Tinubu for creating an environment that fostered a peaceful and transparent primary election.
He extended gratitude to the APC National Working Committee, the electoral committee, fellow aspirants, and delegates for what he described as “a defining moment in Anambra politics.”
“I urge my co-contenders to join forces with me. This is not about individual ambition anymore; it’s about reclaiming Anambra for the APC. I have shaped political outcomes in this state for years. I have been the godfather—now I am stepping forward to lead,” Ukachukwu said.
Ukachukwu’s emergence sets the stage for a fierce political contest in Anambra, where he will face off against incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Labour Party’s George Moghalu in what promises to be a high-stakes three-way race.
With his longstanding involvement in Anambra’s political landscape and renewed ambitions to move from kingmaker to candidate, Ukachukwu has vowed not to betray the trust reposed in him by the party and its supporters.
