NIGERIA: Troops Rescue 7 Kidnapped Victims, Kill One Bandit In Kano Operation
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Troops of 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Operation MESA and in collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force and Nigeria Police, have rescued seven kidnapped victims during a fierce night operation in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
The rescue followed a distress call received at about 11:00 pm on Friday, from Yankamaye Cikin Gari village, alerting security forces of an ongoing bandit attack.
According to a statement issued Sunday by Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Captain Babatunde Zubairu, the joint team responded swiftly, engaged the bandits in a gun battle, and successfully freed the seven victims.
However, the bandits had already killed a 60-year-old woman during the attack. Four other abducted persons remain unaccounted for.
The troops pursued the fleeing bandits along their withdrawal route toward Rimaye and later into Kankia Local Government Area of neighbouring Katsina State.
Commander of 3 Brigade commended the troops for their gallantry and swift response, while urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
Intensive patrols and tracking operations are ongoing to locate the four missing victims and neutralize the fleeing bandits.
