Troops of the 198 Special Forces Battalion under Operation Hadin Kai have repelled a coordinated attack by Boko Haram terrorists on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Katarko in Yobe State, killing at least 23 insurgents in the process.

The development was announced in a statement by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 402 Special Forces Brigade, Lieutenant Bashir Sani Abdulmumin on Friday.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, October 23, 2025, was launched by the terrorists who attempted to infiltrate the military location with sophisticated weapons.
The soldiers reportedly overpowered them through superior firepower and tactical response.
Military sources said the troops pursued the fleeing terrorists up to Gazargana, forcing them to retreat in disarray and abandon several weapons, including four PKT guns, 14 AK-47 rifles, a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) tube, two RPG bombs, two 60mm mortar bombs, hand grenades, improvised explosive device (IED) materials, and assorted ammunition.
No soldier was reported killed in the encounter, though some sustained minor injuries.
Following the successful operation, the Commander, 402 Special Forces Brigade, Brigadier General Mohammed Bako Shehu, visited the base to commend the troops for their gallantry and efficiency.
He also conveyed the commendation of the Chief of Army Staff, the Commander 4 Special Forces Command, and the Theatre Commander, urging the troops to remain vigilant and sustain their operational momentum.
During the visit, Brigadier General Shehu also checked on wounded personnel at the Level 2 Hospital in Damaturu, where he assured them of the Army’s commitment to their recovery and welfare.
The Army said that the general security situation around the area remains calm, while clearance operations to eliminate fleeing terrorists are ongoing.
