By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Troops of the Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai OPHK under Operation Desert Sanity V have arrested a 65 year old suspected drug dealer Hauwa Abulazeez in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State disrupting a cannabis supply chain allegedly linked to Boko Haram elements.
In a statement issued on Sunday by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai, the command emphasised that denying illicit supply chains reduces criminal influence and strengthens security across the region.
The arrest was carried out on Friday based on credible intelligence. During the operation troops recovered 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa with an estimated total weight of about 30 kilograms. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect sourced the substance from Sarti Baruwa Local Government Area of Taraba State and transported it through established routes for distribution to communities including Askira Uba Rumirgo Gwahi Wamdiyo Uvu and Gaya as well as to terrorist groups operating in the area.
The suspect is in custody undergoing further investigation while troops continue follow up operations to identify and dismantle the wider trafficking network.
The Theatre Command described the interception as a significant blow to criminal logistics that sustain violence and instability in the North East.
OPHK reiterated its commitment to intelligence driven operations to eliminate all forms of criminality and achieve lasting peace in the
North East.
