NIGERIA: Traffic Flow Restored On Lokoja-Abuja Highway After Corps Marshal’s Personal Intervention
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Normal traffic movement has been fully restored along the busy Lokoja-Abuja corridor following a hands-on monitoring exercise by Federal Road Safety Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed and his operational taskforce team, ending two days of severe gridlock that stranded thousands of festive travelers.
The Corps Marshal personally led the end-of-year nationwide highway monitoring initiative on the route, overseeing the deployment of additional personnel and resources ordered earlier to tackle the congestion.
His physical presence ensured coordinated efforts to clear obstructions, manage diversions around construction zones, and enforce lane discipline among motorists.
Authorities attributed the recent logjam to surging end-of-year vehicular volume compounded by ongoing road works and instances of impatient driving, including contraflow maneuvers. With the reinforced patrols now in place, free flow has returned, allowing smoother transit for commuters heading to and from the nation’s capital during the Christmas rush.
Motorists have been urged to exercise greater patience, drive cautiously, and strictly adhere to lane markings to avoid fresh bottlenecks.
The intervention forms part of the FRSC’s broader seasonal strategy to enhance safety and efficiency on major highways amid heightened travel activity.
The Corps Marshal’s direct involvement underscores commitment to proactive traffic management, with similar monitoring continuing across key corridors nationwide to prevent accidents and ensure orderly movement throughout the yuletide period.
