NIGERIA: Tinubu Postpones G20 And Au-Eu Summits To Focus On Kebbi Schoolgirls Rescue, Orders More Troops To Kwara
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his scheduled departure to the 20th G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, and the subsequent 7th AU-EU Summit in Luanda, Angola, to allow him to receive further security briefings on the abducted Kebbi schoolgirls and the bandit attack on worshippers in Kwara State.
In response to an appeal from the Kwara State governor, the President has directed the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the entire Ek Ekiti Local Government Area, while ordering the police to pursue and apprehend the bandits who attacked worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church, Eruku, on Tuesday.
President Tinubu, who was originally set to leave Abuja today, suspended his trip following the twin security incidents. He is now awaiting detailed reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi State on his behalf, as well as updates from the police and the Department of State Services on the Kwara attack.
Reiterating his earlier directive, President Tinubu urged security agencies to spare no effort in rescuing the 24 schoolgirls abducted from their hostel in Maga, Kebbi State, and ensuring their safe
return home.
