President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated economist and fiscal policy expert, Taiwo Oyedele, as Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, according to a State House press statement issued on Tuesday.
The nomination was formally transmitted to the Senate for confirmation in a letter addressed to Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
The development forms part of an ongoing cabinet reshuffle within the administration, as Uzoka-Anite has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State , her third ministerial assignment under the Tinubu government.
In the statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the presidency highlighted Oyedele’s extensive background in fiscal reforms, taxation, and public policy.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Taiwo Oyedele as the Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite.”
Until his nomination, Oyedele served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he led efforts aimed at restructuring Nigeria’s tax administration system.
“President Tinubu has today conveyed the nomination of Oyedele to the Senate for confirmation in a letter to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.”
Oyedele, a native of Ikaram in Akoko area of Ondo State, is an economist, accountant, and public policy specialist with over two decades of professional experience.
He holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He has also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
“Until President Tinubu nominated him as a minister, Oyedele was the chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, which overhauled Nigeria’s tax system.”
Oyedele spent 22 years at PwC, where he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. He currently serves as a professor at Babcock University and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
The presidency said the nomination reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening fiscal governance and advancing ongoing economic reforms.
The Senate is expected to commence the confirmation pr
ocess in the coming days.
