President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended former President Goodluck Jonathan, describing him as a statesman whose influence and commitment to democratic values continue to shape Nigeria long after leaving office.

Speaking on Thursday at the 10th anniversary dinner of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation in Abuja, President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, praised Jonathan for what he called his exceptional legacy of democratic stewardship.
At the event, the President noted that former President Jonathan remains a symbol of political maturity and national unity, emphasizing that his conduct during and after his years in office has earned him enduring respect across the country and beyond.
The President highlighted Jonathan’s example of peaceful leadership, recalling his notable contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy at a critical moment in the nation’s history.
He said Jonathan’s decision to set up the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation after leaving office is a testament to his belief that public service continues even outside the corridors of power.
President Tinubu stated: “Life begins anew when we leave the high offices for which we are elected.”
He added that Jonathan’s commitment to dialogue, peace-building, and good governance continues to inspire leaders and citizens across Africa.
In his tribute, the President expressed deep national appreciation for Jonathan, noting that his legacy remains firmly rooted in democratic values.
He said:“There can never be enough words to express the depth of our national gratitude to him.”
He further remarked that Jonathan has remained consistent in championing principles that bind the nation together.
According to him: “He has remained the same guardian of our collective values since leaving office.”
The 10th anniversary celebration of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation brought together political leaders, diplomats, civil society organisations and supporters who gathered to honour the Foundation’s decade of work in promoting peace, democracy, and sustainable development.
