Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared open the 9th edition of the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening sports as a tool for unity and youth development.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Tinubu described sports as a unifying force capable of fostering peace and national cohesion. He assured that his government would continue to invest in infrastructure, training, and policies that promote the discovery of young talents across the country.
Tinubu stated: “This administration will not relent in providing the right opportunities for our youth. Sports remain a vital platform to unite us as a people and showcase our talents to the world.”
The week-long competition has brought together athletes from across Nigeria to compete in various sporting events, with the goal of discovering fresh talents who will represent the nation in future international tournaments.
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, in his remarks, said hosting the Games was a testament to the state’s strong support for sports and youth empowerment.
He assured that Delta would continue to be at the forefront of nurturing athletes that bring pride to Nigeria.
The Games, which will run in Asaba, feature cultural displays and competitive events, highlighting Nigeria’s diversity and the potential of its young population
