NIGERIA: Tinubu Congratulates New Owa Obokun Of Ijeshaland, Oba Haastrup

President Bola Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup (Ajimoko III), who was formally crowned on Friday as the 49th Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijeshaland.

In a statement issued by the State House and signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President celebrated the new monarch’s remarkable journey from politics and business into traditional leadership.

Describing Oba Haastrup as “a prominent businessman” and “a former politician and deputy governor of the state,” Tinubu noted that the monarch’s life has been defined by “a series of impactful transitions.”

“Oba Haastrup’s trajectory, marked by a successful transition from politics to business and now to culture and tradition, is a testament to his leadership abilities, character, and commitment to our traditional institutions,” the President stated.

Tinubu expressed strong confidence in the monarch’s ability to unify and guide his people, adding that his ascension represents both a return to heritage and a step forward for Ijeshaland.

“Oba Haastrup’s pedigree has rekindled my confidence that he will record even greater success now that he is on the throne of his forebears,” the statement read.

The President urged the newly crowned king to serve as a beacon of tradition and unity, stressing the critical role of cultural leadership in national development.

“President Tinubu urged Oba Haastrup to continue upholding the values of our tradition and promoting unity and harmony in Ijeshaland, Osun State, and Nigeria,” it added.

Concluding his message, Tinubu offered prayers and good wishes for Oba Haastrup’s reign.

“The President wished the new traditional ruler divine guidance and wisdom on the throne, praying that the legacy of his forebears continues to shine through his reign.”

Oba Haastrup’s appointment was approved by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke in December 2024, following the passing of the previous monarch.

His coronation took place earlier today in Ilesa, drawing dignitaries and cultural leaders from across the nation.
