NIGERIA: Tinubu Condoles Super Eagles Star Wilfred Ndidi Over Father’s Death In Delta Road Accident

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep condolences to Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi following the tragic death of his father, Sunday Ndidi, in a road accident in Delta State.
Sunday Ndidi, a retired military officer, reportedly died on Tuesday, after a fatal road crash in Umunede, near Agbor, in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State.
He was rushed to a hospital in Agbor but was confirmed dead on arrival.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the incident as “tragic” and conveyed heartfelt sympathy to Wilfred Ndidi, his family, friends, and associates.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of Sunday Ndidi. I share in the grief of his family, friends and associates, particularly Wilfred Ndidi, who shared a strong bond with his father as a mentor and guide in his remarkable career as an exceptional footballer,” the President said.
Tinubu highlighted the positive influence of the deceased, noting that “Sunday’s modest beginnings and honesty greatly impacted those who looked up to him for inspiration.”
The President prayed for God’s comfort on the grieving family and eternal rest for the soul of the departed.
Wilfred Ndidi’s English club, Leicester City, also confirmed the sad news on Tuesday via an official statement: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our footballer Wilfred Ndidi’s esteemed father, Sunday Ndidi, in a fatal traffic accident.”
The club extended its condolences to Wilfred Ndidi and his family during this difficult time.
The incident has drawn widespread sympathy from football fans, the Nigerian football community, and well-wishers across the country, with many expressing support for the Super Eagles star who has been a key figure in Nigeria’s midfield for several years.
