By Ameenat Hamzat, Lagos, Nigeria
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, as the Renewed Hope Ambassador ahead of the national launch of the Federal Government’s Ward Development Programme.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the appointment takes immediate effect and expands Governor Uzodimma’s responsibilities within the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).
The statement reads: “With the appointment, which takes immediate effect, Governor Uzodimma will be responsible, in collaboration with the All Progressives Congress leadership and the governors, for evangelising the Tinubu administration’s programme.”
As Renewed Hope Ambassador, the Imo governor will also serve as the Director-General for Party Outreach, Engagement and Mobilisation, working closely with APC leadership to deepen citizen awareness of the administration’s developmental programmes.
Onanuga stated that Governor Uzodimma will coordinate with party governors to ensure strategic alignment and nationwide engagement under the Renewed Hope agenda. He said the role includes strengthening inclusiveness, harmony, and mobilisation across all levels of the party.
The statement added that all APC governors will also serve as Ambassadors of Hope as part of the broader national sensitisation effort linked to the Ward Development Programme.
He further stated: ” As Renewed Hope Ambassador, Governor Uzodimma, who also chairs the Progressive Governors Forum, will ensure harmony, inclusiveness and strategic coordination across all levels of the party. He will also be involved in mobilising and engaging people. He will work with the APC governors, who will also be Ambassadors of Hope.”
The President charged Uzodimma with championing public awareness about key achievements recorded since the administration assumed office in May 2023.
President Tinubu said: “Ensure that Nigerians are aware of and understand the administration’s achievements.”
The Presidency highlighted several economic improvements credited to ongoing reforms, noting a steady decline in inflation, stabilisation of the exchange rate, and an increase in the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
Onanuga added that investor confidence has strengthened, with rising inflows in both foreign direct and portfolio investments, especially into the oil and gas and solid minerals sectors. He also cited the rapid issuance of international passports and the enrolment of over 700,000 beneficiaries in the federal student loan scheme as part of recent progress.
The President expressed confidence that Governor Uzodimma’s new role will reinforce the nationwide dissemination of the Renewed Hope message and further consolidate the administration’s reform gains.
