NIGERIA: ‘Thank You For Making Nigeria Proud’, President Tinubu Hails Lookman Over CAF Awards

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has appreciated and congratulated Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman. for winning the 2024 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Men’s African Footballer of the Year award.
The President also hailed Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and the Super Falcons team for their victories at the CAF Awards held on Monday night in Marrakech, Morocco.
According to a statement released via X on Monday night by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Lookman, Nnadozie, and the Super Falcons as worthy ambassadors who have brought immense honour to Nigeria on the continental and global stage.
“These athletes embody the essential Nigerian spirit. They signpost the best in us as a nation. Let no one ever write us off. I am incredibly proud of them,” President Tinubu stated.
The President praised their exceptional determination, discipline, and confidence, noting that their achievements exemplify his administration’s vision for a Nigeria where talent thrives and success is achievable for all.
“Thank you for making Nigeria proud and keeping our flag flying. Thank you for winning medals for Nigeria both at home and abroad. You will win more in the future,” Tinubu added.
Lookman’s recognition follows an extraordinary year for the Atalanta forward, who played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s run to the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final and secured the UEFA Europa League title with a stunning hat-trick.
Chiamaka Nnadozie, the Paris FC goalkeeper, earned her second consecutive CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award, while the Super Falcons were crowned Women’s National Team of the Year, reaffirming their position as Africa’s leading women’s football side.
President Tinubu concluded by encouraging young Nigerian athletes to draw inspiration from these successes and remain steadfast in their pursuit of excellence.
