NIGERIA: Tension As Security Locks Gates Against Fubara At Rivers Assembly Complex

By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
A mild drama unfolded at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex on Wednesday, when Governor Siminalayi Fubara arrived only to find the entrance gates locked.
Security personnel at the complex shut the gates just as the governor’s convoy approached, effectively barring him from entry.
Witnesses reported that despite attempts to gain access, the gates remained firmly closed.
According to the security officials, their actions were based on the claim that there was no official communication between the governor and the Assembly leadership regarding his visit.
However, Governor Fubara countered this, stating that he had duly informed Speaker Martins Amaewhule through a formal letter.
He added that he had also attempted to reach the Speaker by phone since Tuesday to confirm his visit.
The incident further highlights the ongoing power struggle within the state’s political landscape, with tensions between the governor and the Assembly leadership continuing to escalate.
