Spotify has announced an increase in earnings for Nigerian and South African musicians in 2024, with combined royalties hitting an impressive $58 million.
According to a report released by the streaming giant, Nigerian artists earned over ₦58 billion ($37.8 million) in royalties last year, which is more than double the amount recorded in 2023.
The report also showed that South African musicians also experienced significant gains, earning over R400 million ($20.9 million) during the same period.
Spotify attributed this growth to the expanding reach of Sub-Saharan Africa’s music industry and the international success of artists such as Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, and South Africa’s Grammy-winning singer Tyla.
Their global appeal has propelled African music onto the world stage, drawing in listeners from across continents.
